Count review after Stocky

Keep the evidence behind the next count.

Choose the counting system first. Use a separate quantity bridge when you need to understand why a finished-product count differs from the records.

What changed

Shopify says Stocky stopped operating on August 31, 2026, with read-only exports available for at least 90 days afterward. Historical Stocky records do not automatically migrate. Its full-location counting guidance describes exporting on-hand inventory, counting offline and retaining the source, counted file and import log. Read Shopify’s current migration guidance.

Check Shopify’s own counting tools first

Quick count supports up to 1,000 variants in a session, manual entry or barcode scanning, and updates Shopify inventory when submitted. Shopify directs staff to count on-hand units, including committed, unavailable and available stock. Available-to-sell alone is a different quantity. Quick count and inventory states.

BatchTrace has no barcode scanner, Shopify login or live stock updates. Its worksheet is limited to 500 unique product codes. Use the native workflow or a suitable integrated app when you need those capabilities.

A separate bridge can expose the question

Consider a fictional maker with 30 finished candles at the opening cutoff, 50 made, 45 sold and no returns, losses or other adjustments. Expected stock is 35. A count of 33 leaves a difference of −2. Do not turn that difference into a second automatic adjustment while also replacing the counted stock elsewhere.

If a recount finds 35, BatchTrace’s recount import changes the count and difference while retaining the 30 opening, 50 made and 45 sold. If it still finds 33, the discrepancy remains for investigation. Neither result identifies its cause.

Bring consistent quantities, not just matching column names

  1. Keep the original exports separately and label their locations, units and cutoffs.
  2. Prepare the opening and movement quantities for the same period. A Shopify snapshot alone is not a production-and-sales bridge.
  3. Use BatchTrace’s column-mapping importer only after checking what each source quantity means. Unassigned movement fields become zero; they are not inferred.
  4. Record the count context and download a full backup. Keep a saved count copy before revising a worksheet.
  5. For selected recounts, use the dedicated two-column importer so other movement fields remain in place.

A BatchTrace export is not a Shopify inventory-import file. There is no automatic Stocky archive importer, purchase-order migration or transfer reconciliation here. Do not upload its report to Shopify as though it were an inventory adjustment.
